I forgot the URL but I read on some other blog that pinging http://rpc.pingomatic.com pings all the other services you mentioned. Is that true?

@Ian - Technorati is just one blog aggregator. there are dozens of them, so why not pinging to them all?

@Odzyskiwanie - Pingomatic pings multiple pinging services but not all mentioned in this article. there's another multi pinging service called autopinger which is quite good too.

This is a pretty useful list. Other than pingomatic, another multi pinging service is pingoat. I found that really useful.
Could someone explain to me what these ping services are all about. I'm new to blogging and trying to catch up. Are they something to do with social media sites or rss feed aggregators?

Pinging services basically are notifying services. Pining is telling those services that your blog has been updated.

Great list of ping sites. Since pinging some of these sites, I have seen an increase in my blogs traffic. I now use some of these in conjunction with BlogBuzzer.com to automatically update and ping my blog.

Here is the problem....you have a contract that states you will be charged a penalty if you deactivate before your contract is up. They are now enforcing that clause. What you have to do is get the whole contract voided...and that may take a lawsuit.
